I'm not a big fan of silent cinema, but F.W. Murnau's "Sunrise" is a GREAT film and this Saturday it is playing at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church with organist Arthur Johnson performing the music live. While not a GBFS event, we are involved in the presentation and encourage everyone to attend. Here is the official press release:
| Quote: | St. Patrick's Church to Present "An Evening at the Silent Movies"
St. Patrick's Episcopal Church invites you to attend the next in it's series of Rumble and Zing Concerts for the community this Saturday, November 4 at 7:30 PM, with "An Evening at the Silent Movies". The evening's featured film is Sunrise, a 1927 drama directed by F. W. Murnau. The silent film will be accompanied by the very talented Arthur Johnson, organist, who will improvise a musical score live at the screening. This is a rare opportunity so view the same movie your great-grandparents probably went out on a date to see! This program is presented with the cooperation with the Great Basin Film Society, without whose assistance this special event would not be possible. The program is free of admission, so that all may attend. A suggested donation of $20 per adult will gladly be received at the door, to help offset programming costs. St. Patrick's Episcopal Church is located at 341 Village Blvd., Incline Village, Nevada, one block uphill from Highway 28. For directions or further information please contact the church office at 775-831-1418 or www.tahoeepiscopal.org. |
I've seen Mr. Johnson perform accompanying music for two other silent features and he did a terrific job on both of them. For me, silent movies are best experienced with live music and it truly is a privilege to see what is arguably the greatest film of the era presented in this manner. In short, a must see. |
