Humane, heartbreaking, acutely observed, sometimes dumbfoundingly funny, IL POSTO chronicles the (mis)fortunes of Dominico (wonderfully played by nonprofessional Sandro Panzeri), a young Milanese who applies for a job in a large firm, suffers the humiliations of office life, and strikes up a relationship with a secretary in hopes of escaping both his smothering family and his numbing work routine. There is no better party scene in cinema than the painfully funny New Year’s Eve office celebration, which will make you cringe with familiarity.
"[A] modern classic. Olmi keeps the scenario firmly anchored in a humane realism, and builds a comedy of feeling based upon the implicit observation of the minutest detail. A delight, no less acute for being gentle." — Time Out
"IL POSTO is a finely crafted, unassuming, gentle film, but it has the honesty, integrity, and emotional strength to stand with the giants of its era." — Matt Bailey, Not Coming To a Theater Near You
"A wry, sensitive look at the petty, frequently amusing strategies people devise to achieve the equally petty, equally amusing rewards of an indifferent society." — Don Druker, Chicago Reader
