THE TALL T

Director: Budd Boetticher
Year: 1957
Runtime: 78 min.
Country: USA
Language: English
Color: Color (Technicolor)
Format: 16mm

When it's revealed that one of the passengers is an heiress, a simple stagecoach robbery becomes a kidnapping for ransom. This tautly told tale is considered to be the best film in a series by the team of director Boetticher, actor Randolph Scott, and producer Harry Joe Brown. Morally complex, with the lines between the hero Pat Brennan (Scott) and the villain Usher (Richard Boone) ambiguously drawn, The Tall T points towards Sergio Leone's anti-hero Westerns of the 1960s. This cult Western favorite is unavailable on home video.

Before the feature, we will be screening the award-winning featurette "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" (France, 1962, 30 min., Dir. Robert Enrico). Based on the short story by Ambrose Bierce and set during the American Civil War. This is an absolute must-see!

"One of the best of the Randolph Scott-Budd Boetticher B westerns. Richard Boone makes one of the most memorable of Boetticher's witty, intelligent villains; no other western director so seductively gave evil its due." — Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
