LOVE STREAMS

Director: John Cassavetes
Year: 1984
Runtime: 141 min.
Country: USA
Language: English
Color: Color
Format: 16mm

Made when John Cassavetes had learned he had only six months to live (although he would ultimately live another six years), Love Streams represent a farewell of sorts to his audience and to the art of filmmaking itself. Robert Harmon (Cassavetes) is a popular novelist who spends his days immersed in a haze of alcohol and women. Sarah Lawson (Gena Rowlands) is a woman undergoing the pain and frustration of a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband Jack (Seymour Cassell). Together, these two lost souls embark on a differing but equally desperate quest for love, growth and renewal.

Winner of the Golden Bear award for Best Picture, 1984 Berlin Film Festival

"**** Raw, spontanious. There's an exhilaration in this rollercoaster ride through scenes that come out of nowhere." — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"John Cassavetes's career of risk taking comes to a climax in this rich, original, emotionally magnificent 1984 film." — Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
